Pools and Hot Tubs Guide
Check-in and Servicing
On your check-in day, the pool and hot tub vendor has until 4:00 PM to service the pool and/or hot tub. Early check-in does not mean the pool or hot tub has been serviced. Some vendors will leave a door tag or note on a dry erase board in the pool area indicating when last serviced. Do not enter the pool or hot tub until it has been serviced, due to safety precautions.
A mid-week service is performed by the vendor on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Vendors are required to perform a chemical check and adjust chemicals as needed. Not all vendors perform a mid-week pool vacuum—this is determined by the property owner and their pool company. Pools are vacuumed on check-in days.
Hot Tub Care
Keep the hot tub cover on and strapped down whenever not in use. Leaving the cover off will result in loss of temperature and may allow sand and bugs to enter the hot tub.
To keep hot tubs filtering correctly:
- Shower off before entering to remove suntan lotions, sunscreens, and body lotions, which can clog the filter and make the water cloudy
- Maintain water level just above the jets (adding water will not lower chemical levels)
- No food or drinks while in the hot tub
- Do not remove floaters from hot tubs
Pool Care
Sand is part of the Outer Banks environment and will blow into pools. Sand will not damage pool mechanics or affect chemical levels, so pools are safe to use with sand in them.
To keep pools filtering correctly:
- Maintain water level at the minimum, slightly above the middle of the skimmer box on the pool side (adding water will not lower chemical levels)
- Shower off before entering to remove suntan lotions, sunscreens, and body lotions, which can clog filters and may require pool shutdown if water becomes too cloudy to see the bottom
- Remove all toys and floats when not using the pool, as they can be drawn to the skimmer box and block filtration
Private Pools
Some homes have private pools that are open seasonally, usually from the first full week in May through the third full week in October. Some homes have heat available for an additional fee indicated in the individual home description. If you would like to add pool heat, contact the office directly to make arrangements. Some pool heaters cannot operate unless the outside air temperature is above 60 degrees. Refer to individual home descriptions on www.joelambjr.com for heated pool availability.
Private Hot Tubs
Some homes have private hot tubs that are open year-round. Hot tub covers should be kept on and strapped down when not in use.
Private Pool and Hot Tub Servicing
Pools and hot tubs are cleaned on your arrival date by independent contractors hired by the property owner. Contractors visit during your stay to monitor water quality and provide maintenance. Our company does not supervise the existence, frequency, or adequacy of this maintenance.
- Do not tamper with or remove devices left by contractors in the pool or hot tub
- Do not tamper with any pool equipment such as pumps, vacuums, and heaters
- Do not let dogs in the pool
- If cleaning is required during your stay due to misuse, the cost will be charged to you
- Use of portable hot tubs, kiddie pools, portable pools, or similar equipment anywhere on the property, including decks, porches, or patios is prohibited
Use of any pool or hot tub can pose risks ranging from infections to drowning. Please use them with care and at your own risk.
Community Pools and Hot Tubs
Some homes are in neighborhoods with community pools and/or hot tubs. These are open seasonally and maintained by neighborhood homeowners' associations. Refer to individual home descriptions on www.joelambjr.com for open and close dates.
